Downed

An interesting frame I pulled from the Oregon State v. Stanford game. Its abstract and shows a different aspect of the sport, but there’s no ball. Poop. Also, players’ limbs are chopped off like crazy. Nice none the less. Comments?

Abscense and Pride

I’ve been toying with the idea of covering people with motor oil and placing them against a white background. I did it to myself for a self portraiture project. More on the way.

It would be nice to be hired for some editorial work someday.

No. 10 Boise beat Oregon State 25-9 in a thrilling but exhausting two hour match Sunday afternoon. (Original frame, Photoshop grayscale, curves and dodging/burning only.)

More Wrestling

I shot it all with a 300mm f/2.8, right on the corner of the mat mostly. I also pulled out the Nikkormat and shot some (manual focus is a challenge.) I'll scan in my best print, its nice. Grayscaled because colour was a pain to correct. Enjoy.

One-Legged Wrestling

Arizona State's No. 12 Anthony Robles wrestles Oregon State senior Jake Gonzales in the 125 pound weight class at the ASU-OSU match on Sunday, Feb. 8. Robles, who was born with only one leg, beat Gonzales by decision, 8-3.

Cringe

I love the facial expression here. As I lifted the camera to take the shot she cringed, she definitely did not want her picture taken. I shot this on film and I think there was a light leak or I didn’t agitate properly. I still like it.

Remembering

I feel the need to elaborate on this photograph. Academy Award winner Bill Guttentag came to Oregon State to talk about, among other things, his work. He was up on a small stage in an auditorium. I just came from a basketball game and happened to have a 300mm lens. He turned the house lights off when showing some of his work; the remainging light was perfect. This particular photo was taken at ISO 1600, f/2.8, at 1/20. It was so dark I couldn’t see enough to focus. I think the content of the film coupled with Guttentag’s expression and the solemn blue tones make the image powerful, despite the fact that it isn’t sharp. (There is no cropping on this shot.)

Glove

Men’s Civil War

I shot mostly fan/coach reactions at the Civil War. I suppose I’ve been a bit heavy on the slideshows, but I feel I found some interesting characters.
(I’m also procrastinating on a graphic design project. Enjoy.)

Untitled

I think 90 percent of photography is showing up, being in the right place at the right time. Anybody can operate a camera, really, and any idiot can push the shutter. Some car, somewhere, driving.
