Untitled

This may as well be the worst photo I’ve ever taken. It is not white balanced properly, it is not in focus, it is underexposed. You can barely see the subjects’ faces. The composition is horrible.

Luau

Nobel Laureate Dr. Shirin Ebadi attends the 54th Annual OSU Luau during her visit in Corvallis, Oregon. PeaceJam Northwest, a yearly youth leadership conference, brought Ebadi to Oregon State to speak on women’s rights and gender issues.

Continuation

Two Colorado State runners compete in the 3000 meter steeplechase Friday at the Oregon Relays. Photographer Cory Reed managed to get water splashed inside of the nice wide lens.

OSU Capital Day

A nice frame from an assignment today. No dodging or burning, just a red filter and some contrast. More to come (if I’m not too busy.)

Students arrive at the state capital in Salem from Oregon State University.

BSS and Bicycles

I’m listening to Broken Social Scene for the first time (the album of the same name) and I like what I hear. A friend sent me some Blizten Trapper: I like it, too.

I saw an Asian man riding a bicycle in circles around a street light in an empty parking lot at night. I would have taken a photograph of him, but I had no camera.

People were practicing yoga in the grass. The light was great: the sun was just about to set, and the figures were in unison, creating long sweeping shadows. I impulsively approached them with camera at eye level. The instructor said something like: “It isn’t polite to take someone’s photo without asking them.” He didn’t want me to take photos, so I left. I realize I don’t care what people think of me—to an extent.

I worked my way through a book that featured the best photography from 1989. (NPPA? I can’t remember.) It was interesting to see the events of yesteryear. The images were powerful and compelling: I am inspired.

Most of my day was spent wandering around, working on a photo project for class. Here is something nice from the shoot:

The Longest Day

I’ve been going nonstop since about 10:30. Tomorrow is just as busy, and there is a 6:30 a.m. shoot on Monday. I did manage two free burritos at the baseball game.

Procession of the Species, a march in downtown Corvallis
Oregon State softball versus Washington, lost 1-0.
OSU baseball versus USC, lost 5-2.
Local team Benton Bulldogs, won 31-28 over some other team.

Swipe

I shot some soccer today (OSU versus the Portland Timbers’ secondary team.) The results were pretty mediocre. I was stuck using a D70: ugh.

OSU Goalkeeper Steve Spangler deflects a ball during the first half of the Beavers vs. Timbers game on Friday. Photographer Cory Reed forgot to charge his D2H battery prior to the game and was stuck using a crappy prosumer camera.

Here is the schedule for the next two days:
SATURDAY
10:00 EarthFaire
1:00 OSU Softball vs Washington
2:00 OSU Baseball vs USC
6:00 Benton Bulldogs Football game
SUNDAY
12:00 OSU Softball vs Washington
12:00 OSU Baseball vs USC
(not sure how I’m going to pull this off)
1:00 OSU Soccer vs Southern Fuego
4:00 Hurling Scrimmage
7:00 OSU Soccer vs Cascade Surge

Road Trip

I went to Seattle over the weekend. It wasn't really planned: a friend was seeing family and another friend was getting away. My friend invited me during a drunk dial the week before. I thought I was going to be busy, but things worked out. I needed to get away, too.

I like traveling. The new policy: go wherever, whenever possible. Don't turn down opportunities to explore to new people and places.

You don’t get to know

These words ring in my ears and will define the better part of the next few months.

From a concert I shot on April 1st: Hollywood Undead, Senses Fail, Brokencyde, and Haste The Day at the Roseland Theater. More to come, stay tuned.
